Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright - Emily Haines & James Shaw (2005)
Couldn’t decide what to post. Ended up with this. It’s a good song. Plus, you know, Bob Dylan. That’s all.

Where Does the Good Go - Tegan and Sara
[Milestone SNMC tonight. Twenty weeks! Wow.]
These two woman are absolutely adorable. I love this song. I love them. I love their music. And even though I’ve been posting songs from predominantly male artists, I have love for the female makers of music, too! Resolve: play one from the girls just as often.
I think next week I’m going to do a special full week of SNMC. We’ll see..
Not one song posted on Sunday Night Music Club is by a solo female artist. And only 3 bands I’ve used have at least one female member in them. I think this Sunday, it’s time for a change.
I’m actually really disappointed in myself because I got so angry a couple months back when the radio station my work plays had ‘Diva Weekend.’ So far they’d had Billy Joel Weekend, Elton John Weekend, Fab Four Weekend, the list goes on of all the male artists… but when women were finally featured, they got a single weekend for every female artist. All of them. Together. Really? There wasn’t enough Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell, Aretha Franklin, Blondie or Heart to justify dedicating a measly two days to only one woman musician? As much as I love the men (and I do, just look at what I’ve been posting on SNMC), why should every female artist combined get the same treatment as one male? Makes sense to say they shouldn’t, right?

Boot Scootin’ Boogie - Brooks & Dunn (1992)
This warrants some explanation:
Two of my friends are doing something called the 30 Day Song Challenge. Day 14 is ‘A song that no one would expect you to love.’ Got me thinking.. I don’t know that there is a song that at least one of my friends wouldn’t expect me to like. There are a handful of musicians that people are always shocked to hear that I don’t like, but never that I do. If it’s music, odds are I like it.
So in lieu of a song that people wouldn’t expect me to love, I’d post a song that no one knows I love… because I’ve never told anyone before now. :)

Dust In the Wind - Kansas (1977)
I have to admit, I was originally going to post this song because I’ve been moping around all day, miserable. I felt very out of control and unhappy about a couple things.
However, tonight was Oscar night, and while I don’t normally care about that, a few of my friends from journalism school and I created a Facebook group and Oscar-chatted our pretty little hearts out. Best Academy Awards ever? Yea, I think so. J-School is awesome.

Up On Cripple Creek - The Band (1969)
I have been listening to, singing, whistling and humming this song since Monday night. The audio above is the original from 1969. The linked video is from The Last Waltz, a career-finale concert for The Band in San Francisco in 1976. Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Ringo Starr, Van Morrison and a bunch of other really, really awesome musicians came and played with them. To top it all off, Martin Scorcese filmed the whole thing. Listen to the song and then watch the video because both are incredible.
The Last Waltz show was the final time The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down was performed with Levon Helm.
P.S. Wasn’t he a looker in ‘76? ;)

Life’s Been Good - Joe Walsh (1978)
I’ve been working on the most amazingly epic playlist of 70s music ever this weekend!! Eventually I’ll have one for the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. There’s a ginormous list of songs that I madly love, but don’t know the artist/song title (and should). I’m going to remedy that.

You May Be Right - Billy Joel (1980)
Chose this for reasons I’m keeping only for myself.
I was going to post a David Essex song until I heard Billy Joel on the radio at work this afternoon and realized how perfect it was for me right now. Also, Glass Houses kicks ass.
To make up for being secretive, here’s the song I’ve had in my head all week.
